Proceeds for Poverty Frequently Asked Questions
100%, Really?!
Yes, we will give 100% of everything sold towards the cause(s) you have chosen. Global Partners in Peace and Development as well as the Proceeds for Poverty event are subsidized by organizations, businesses, and individuals like you. This is how we are able to give all of the monies to the designated cause(s).
Purpose of PFP?
Global Partners in Peace and Development (GPPD) believes that every life is valuable and looks for opportunities to help meet the basic needs of individuals, as well as building communities long-term. The Proceeds for Poverty event will help GPPD meet the needs of people living in poverty throughout the world. Our desire is that this event will unite the people of the Roanoke Valley. Together we can truly make a difference in the world.
Tags and Tax Deductible Receipt?
We have price stickers that indicate which cause the money will go toward. To receive a tax deduction, according to IRS regulations, you must complete a tax-deductible receipt which will be signed at the time of drop off. Reffer to the main PfP page to print the PDF receipt and have ready at time of drop off.
It would also greatly help us if you could write a price on the sticker, but is not necessary for our record keeping. If you are not concerned with getting a tax deductible receipt you do not need to complete the form.
If you are not concerned with which cause the money will go toward, you do not need to tag the items and we will give the proceeds to the cause with the greatest need. Contact us for price stickers and a tax-deductible receipt. Let us know which cause you would like to support.
What to Give?
Whether you can give a lot or a just a little, every penny will make a difference in the life of someone living in poverty. We will take anything in good working condition: appliances, antiques, books, electronics, furniture, jewelry, sporting goods, tools, baby and kids things, toys, DVDs, CDs, kitchen items, home décor items, and whatever else you can think of. We do not accept clothing, though if you do have clothing that you would like to donate there is a local group, T.U.G.A., that gives away clothing to those in need in the Roanoke Valley. We will give whatever clothing you donate to TUGA, however we cannot give a tax deductible receipt for your clothing donations.
How do I get my stuff to you?
Rainbow Forest Baptist Church of Troutville, VA is generously allowing us to use their Student Life Center for the week of the sale and providing volunteers to help us with this sale. If you are able, please bring your stuff to the Student Life Center (located on the upper parking lot of the church campus) at 1338 Rainbow Forest Drive, Troutville, VA 24175 on Monday, June 20 through Wednesday, June 22 from 9 AM –7pm. If, for some reason, you do not have the transportation or the ability to transport your donations, our moving volunteers can help you on Monday, June 20. Please note in your registration if you need this assitance.
Why not help people in poverty in the US?
This event actually will! All the donations that do not sell will go to Samaritans Inn and other local organizations and groups to help the homeless in Roanoke. Poverty effects so many people in the U.S. too but the most of poorest people in U.S.A are still in the top 15% of the world’s richest people. Global Partners sees both as important but this particular event mainly focuses on some of the poorest people in the world.
