Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I sponsor more than one child?

A: Yes, you can sponsor more than one child each month. There are many who sponsor more than one child.

Q: Am I the only sponsor for my child?

A: Yes, you are the only sponsor of your child.

Q: Why does the child come to the Children’s Home?

A: There are many different reasons why a child would come to one of our Children’s Homes. One of the main reasons is that one of their parents has passed away and the other parent or their relatives are not able to provide sufficiently for them. Some of the children have lost both of their parents, and a few of them have parents who lovingly gave them up because they were not able to provide for them.

Q: How do you meet the needs of children living in a Children’s Home?

A: We would never feed one orphan child and ignore the other orphan children living with them. We feel that all of the children are special and should be treated equally. Through the combined efforts of sponsors like you who are sacrificially giving, we are able to meet the basic needs of every child in the Children’s Home.

Q: How much of my money will actually go to my child?

A: Currently 100% of the money you send in will go to help meet the needs of your child.

Q: Can I write my child or send my child a gift?

A: Yes! Your letter is a great encouragement to your child and helps them feel significant. If you would like to send a gift we ask that you send enough for all the children in their home. It helps to keep the peace between the children. If the gift is larger than a letter we would like to deliver the gift in person as large packages have been known to cause our national workers stress with the government. We go to India as well as Haiti around 4 times yearly. You can find more information about your child’s home and how many kids are currently in the home  here for India and here for Haiti. Please email us at info@gpartner.org for the address to mail your letter.

Q: Can I visit my child?

A: Yes! Please see our GPartner Trip page for more information on how you might travel with us to meet and show love to your child.

Q: How many unsponsored children do you currently have and where from?

A: GPPD is working to provide educational and food programs for 215 impoverished children in Haiti. We also partner to provide a home, food, education and love for over 600 orphaned or abandoned children in India as well as 29 orphaned children in Haiti.  To operate these child programs and homes we need over 300 sponsors today.

Q: Will I receive progress reports and/or pictures of my child? If so, how often?

A: Each year (usually in January) we take a team to India to visit the Children’s Homes. This team will take pictures of all of the children and that spring you will receive an updated picture and note or artwork from your child. We also add the updated pictures of your child online and you can search your child to see their new information using the Child Sponsorship Search options.

Q: How do I donate and/or who do I make the check payable to?

A: Please make your checks payable to Global Partners in Peace and Development or GPPD. You can also pay with an electronic check or through our secure credit card service here. You can set up monthly payments if you would like for the $30 to come out automatically each month.

Q: Where would I mail my donations?

A: Global Partners in Peace and Development – PO Box 117 – Blue Ridge, VA 24064-0117

Q: My bank offers online bill payment. Can you accept my sponsorship this way?

A: We have many sponsors who send their monthly support check automatically through online banking. This is a wonderful option to make sure that your check is sent on time each month. If your bank has access to online banking, you most likely can set up a monthly automatic payment to support your orphan. They will allow you to set up the payee (Global Partners in Peace and Development), where to send the payment to, the monthly payment amount, and the date that you want it to be paid. This will save you time and postage.

Q: When do I begin sending in support for my child?

A: You can begin sending in your support immediately.

Q: Can I send in more than one month’s amount toward my sponsorship support?

A: Your support may be monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually, whichever is most convenient for you. When you send your sponsorship in for more than one month, it saves you time and/or postage.

Q: Will I receive a reminder when my child's support comes due?

A: No. However, if your support falls behind after a few months, we will contact you regarding continuing sponsorship. Please use the envelopes in your sponsorship packet to mail in your support for your child if you are sending your donation in the form of a check. If you need more envelopes, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Q: What if I can no longer be a sponsor?

A: We understand that circumstances can change which may affect your sponsorship. If you are no longer able to continue the $30 support each month, please contact us so that we may get another sponsor for the child.

Q: Can I bring my child to the United States for a visit?

A: Even though we would all love to bring our child to the U.S. to spend time with us, we do not believe this is in the best interest of the child as well as it is very difficult logistically. There are several reasons for this: the safety and well-being of the child, the uneasiness that language barriers can create, the culture shock experienced by the child, the rules of the government for visa permissions, and the child's readjustment to his or her own lifestyle can be difficult. If you would like to go to India to visit your child at his/her home, please contact us about an upcoming gpartner trip.

Q: Can I adopt my orphan?

A: As much as many of us would love to adopt our sponsored child, this is not possible. Our Children’s Homes are not registered for adoption. We also believe that these children are the next leaders in the country of India. We want to help raise up a generation of young people who know how to show and share God’s love to the more than 1 billion other Indians of India.

Q: What if my child moves or leaves the program?

A: One of the joys of becoming a sponsor is having the opportunity to watch your particular child develop and mature. It is possible that your special child may have to move or withdraw from the sponsorship program. There can be any number of reasons for this occurring. Usually when a child moves from the home it is because a relative is able to now care for the child. We are very sad to see them leave, but we are happy that the child will be able to grow up with family that loves them. Also, some children leave because they have finished their high school and will go to get further education. If your child is no longer at the home, we will let you know as soon as possible by mail or phone and give you the opportunity to sponsor another wonderful child in need of love and prayer.

Q: How can I get a gift to my child for Christmas?

A: Each Christmas, we ask all sponsors to give an extra donation, above their monthly support, to purchase a gift for their child. In previous years when our team traveled to India, we had taken gifts for the children that were packed by the sponsors in shoeboxes. However, due to the amount of children we now have and the changing regulations with the amount of luggage that is allowed on planes, plus the rising costs to ship all of the shoeboxes to India, this is no longer possible. We have found that it is more affordable to purchase the gifts in India. With the money, we are able to get each child a new set of clothes (of good quality and made to last, which includes new shoes) new toys, school supplies, personal items, and candy. The children receive their new clothes before Christmas Day and the team gives them the other items when they arrive in January. The sponsors are able to send us a personalized note for their child which will be given to them with their gift.
