Refugee Crisis: YOU MUST do something

Tuesday, September 8, 2015 6:25 PM
Tuesday, September 8, 2015 6:25 PM

Here are some recent headlines in the news.....

"Unprecedented Human Migration"

"Deaths mount, no end in sight to EU refugee crisis"

"The innocent victims of Europe's migrant crisis: Syrian children...."

"The worst humanitarian disaster of our time"

The countries of Iraq and Syria have been ravaged by war and the unfathomable barbarianism of ISIS desiring to create a caliphate, a state governed by Islamic law. Their march to greater power and territory have destroyed the lives of hundreds of thousands. They are using horrific means to reach their goals: the beheading of children, burning people alive, rape, trafficking, slavery, giving young women and girls to their fighters, and unfortunately this is just the start. They are selling young women and children for a pack of cigarettes. This is inhumane. They walk the streets of cities throughout Iraq and Syria stating "Convert or Die". You have three choices 1) leave 2) pay a large tax or 3) suffer and die.

5 Reasons to go on a GPPD Trip in 2015

Wednesday, January 21, 2015 8:13 PM
Wednesday, January 21, 2015 8:13 PM

Have you ever taken a short-term trip to serve those in need in another country? We know this list doesn't cover everything, but we believe these are 5 reasons why every person should experience (at least once) in their life a short-term trip.

  • Help those in desperate need – GPPD has trips scheduled to India, Haiti, Jordan, and the Philippines… where some of the most heartbroken and suffering people in the world are living.

Jordan – Refugees fleeing from Iraq/Syria by the millions

India – Tsunami in Dec 2004 killed over 230,000 in 14 different countries

Haiti - Earthquake in Jan 2010 killing an estimated 100,000 to 200,000 people

Philippines – Typhoons in 2012/2013 - over 8,000 people killed

By going to share and show God’s love we are able to bring hope to so many who need it. Our connections in each of these countries allow us unique opportunities to strategically partner and come alongside those who specifically need our help. These precious men, women, and children... created by God are crying out for help. You could be the answer to someone’s prayer this year.

  • Encourage the full time workers /  national partners – We have many full-time Associates and National Partners who sacrifice their entire lives serving those in desperate need. On our trips, we work hard to be an encouragement and blessing to them. While we will go and leave within a week or two, they are staying behind to continue the work. One of our primary goals is to have our National Partners love having our teams assist them so much that they are sad to see us leave. We also desire to use the skills of our team to build bridges for our Associates to use to create future ministry opportunities.

  • Strengthen your core faith and trust in God – Committing to go on a trip (for most) will require great sacrifice of time, money, and energy. The amount of work you put into preparing for the trip will greatly benefit the blessing you receive (and the blessing you are able to provide) during the trip. The exposure you will have as you witness a completely different culture will potentially rock your world. All of these should combine to deepen your relationship and trust in God as you learn how to completely depend on Him while taking this giant step of faith. This will greatly help your life (if you apply all you’ve learned and experienced) once you return from the short-term trip. Take it a step further and GIVE up something of value to help you raise support - perhaps something like a vacation, an Xbox, or Cable TV for a length of time - and use the time and money saved to deepen your relationship with God and help those you will be serving.

  • Create memories that will last a lifetime – Spending a week with a body of people all committed to the same purpose and goals will be so uplifting to your soul and spirit. There will be many moments  of laughter and fun, but also tears of joy as we take time each day to share and celebrate all that God is doing and allowing us to accomplish together. You will make new friends that you will stay connected with for years to come. In some ways, our team will become  a family… and you will be so thankful you are a part of it. Your prayer life will deepen as we rely completely on God to go before us and lead the way.

  • Could forever change how you live your life – We have personally witnessed incredible life change that can take place on a short-term trip. Some have completely surrendered their life to God, others have committed to packing up and moving to Haiti or India, others have decided to remove some things in their lives so they can give back even more. In other words, seeing is believing and believing that you can actually do something (whether big or small) that can change someone else’s life forever is something that is motivating and inspiring. Once you experience the brokenness and suffering, you can’t help but want to do more.

You can take our word for it… or you can experience it for yourselves. Check out www.gpartners.org/trips to find out how you can sign up for a trip this year.

2014 Recap

Wednesday, January 21, 2015 8:05 PM
Wednesday, January 21, 2015 8:05 PM

Thank you so much for making 2014 one of the best years in the history of GPPD. In just our 11th year of ministry God continues to bless and overwhelm us in ways we could ever think or imagine. Part of the reason we have "Partners" in our name is not only because we work with partners overseas, but because we could not exist without partners like you who pray, sacrificially give, and go! Because of your obedience to God, by simply saying "yes" we were able to show and share His amazing love in 2014 to countless people around the world! We wanted to take a minute to give GOD the Glory for the great things that have been done. Please celebrate with us as we thank God for the following:

2014 Trips - We are thankful for the nearly 100 trip participants who journeyed with us to Haiti, Jordan, and India. With their help we were able to accomplish successful medical clinics, food distributions, water well dedications, children's ministry, women's ministry, and much more - all for the Glory of God! It was a joy to expand our partnerships with new churches and families as we came together for a common cause. We can't even begin to put a number on the lives that were eternally impacted by the sacrifice of so many. If you missed out on a trip last year, please check out this year's schedule... which in addition to Haiti, Jordan, and India... will include a trip to the Philippine Islands. Hope you can join us

100% Events - Through Proceeds for PovertyChip in FORE orphans Golf Tournament, and St. Nick's Christmas Fair... almost $70,000 was raised!!! Every penny goes to help the needs (orphans, widows, women and children in poverty, refugees, etc) that are designated prior to each event. This year, we wanted to give back locally and to other "crisis" situations. We were blessed to give $4000 to help the homeless in Roanoke, and $5000 to help families in West Africa suffering from the Ebola crisis, both gifts were because of Proceeds for Poverty. We are excited that in 2015 we will be launching Proceeds 4 Poverty and an Orphan Golf Tournament in central Pennsylvania.

Nations Hope Store - Probably the highlight of the year for us was the successful launch of our new online store  www.nationshopestore.com. We are extremely thankful for the work of Amber Hasson and Hannah Strayer who spent 10 months in India training groups of Indian women how to sew and make the products that will continue to be sold on the website. Every dollar spent at the store (products also available for purchase at our home office in Blue Ridge, VA) will go back into the program to train new women as well as to help provide for orphans. Women are paid fair wages as they successfully complete products as this allows them to provide for their families in ways they never could before.

Gift Catalog / Ornaments 4 Hope - We are so thankful for Vicki Riggins who worked long hours over a 2 month periodwith our graphic designer to complete our 2014-2015 Gift Catalog. We mailed out over 3,000 copies of the catalog and also had a handful of churches and organizations take part in our first ever Ornaments 4 Hope campaign.  We are so excited to announce that as of today, nearly $15,000 has been given towards projects to help those in desperate need! Thank you to everyone who gave (and continue to give). Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!

Country Updates

India - In addition to all Amber and Hannah were able to accomplish, we also installed 22 new clean water wells, completed the Siddipet Training Center, fixed-up five of our Children's Homes that were in need of repair, and continued to take care of over 500 children in 15 Children's Homes.  Through generous donations and our annual Proceeds for Poverty events we have now installed 43 clean water wells in just 4 years! Visit our clean water page to see how you can help us reach our goal of 100 water wells by 2020.

Jordan - While some changes have recently occured to our GPPD team in Jordan, the opportunities are overflowing to continue to share and show love. Although the number of refugees pouring into the country have slowed down over the last couple of month, the needs of the refugees continue to be great, as over 2 million live there. In 2015 we will be privileged to meet both the short and long-term needs of many desperate refugees by providing food, shelter, clothing, blankets, heaters, mattresses, and more.

Slovakia - Charles, Janet & Tina Baldis continue to minister in Slovakia where they have faithfully served for over 15 years. They have faced many challenges over the years but new doors have continued to open for them. Most recently, they have begun helping out with the Narnia School and Charles has been developing a course on a True Worldview. We are so thankful for their faithful service to the Lord in Slovakia and look forward to seeing how "their territory expands" in 2015. Are you receiving their newsletters? Shoot us an email if you would like to be added to their list.

Haiti - We continue to partner with over 10 different "like-minded" organization in Haiti. Haiti tends to be a place most Americans are eager to serve, so our trips to Haiti typically fill up quickly. Amber Hasson, who served in Haiti in 2013 will be headed back to serve full-time in March or April. Amber has a passion for Haitian people. We are excited to see how she will be used to impact the lives of many people, much like she did in India in 2014. Just a few days ago Reese Kearney was approved to be an Intern with GPPD. She will be serving with Amber in Haiti, as well as with one of our partners who works in the medical field.

Nepal - Heather Scrivener is also a very new addition to the GPPD family. She will be serving as an Intern during 2015 as well. Heather spent some time serving in an orphanage in Nepal during the end of 2014 and is currently seeking direction regarding her next steps. We are excited about what is in store for her and are looking forward to helping her make these decisions.

Wow... What a year!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude to know that during 2014, through generous donors like you, over $936,000 was given to GPPD to provide help and hope to people in need around the world! Numbers like this never cease to amaze us, but with God we realize that nothing should surprise us, as He is the God of the impossible. We are thankful that our Associates, Interns, Staff and National Partners are wise stewards of the funds that are received and work hard to make sure that each penny is stretched as far as possible to share and show God's love.

Matching Fund

Will you help us reach our goal of $20,000 donated into our General Fund to start off 2015? Every tax deductable dollar given (up to $10,000) will be doubled until January 15. Your gift to GPPD will allow us to continue to move full-speed ahead and accomplish all that God has placed in our hearts for this year. You can mail in a check to the address at the bottom of this email or click the following link to make a donation.
