Nyabishera Village (Sheema District)

ABOUT THE WELL
- Project: New community water well installed in a central location within this rural village
- Purpose: Restore dependable local access to water for families throughout the community
- Regional Water Challenge: Sheema District is generally very hot and dry, and access to water remains one of the greatest challenges for families throughout the area
- Previous Water Situation: The community previously had access to a borehole installed by a local mayor. After she lost a subsequent election, the borehole and its components were removed, leaving the community without a dependable water source
- New Water Source: A new GPPD funded well providing the community with a dependable local source of water
- Property & Caretaking: The well was installed on private property, and the property owners have agreed to serve as caretakers of the well site

Community Impact
- The well was intentionally placed in a central area so it can be accessed by villagers throughout Nyabishera
- Women and girls continue to carry much of the responsibility for collecting water, which is often not safe. The time spent searching for and carrying water can also take girls away from school and limit their opportunity for education
- Families now have a dependable source of water within their own community, reducing the daily burden of finding water and restoring access after the previous borehole was removed
- We estimate approximately 500 people will use this well to access the water
