ABOUT THE WELL
- Project: New community water well installed on privately owned land within this rural community
- Purpose: Provide a more dependable local source of water for families throughout the surrounding area
- Regional Water Challenge: Sheema District is generally very hot and dry, and access to dependable water remains one of the greatest challenges for families throughout the area
- Previous Water Situation: Families relied on hand-dug pools located on this property as a source of water
- New Water Source: A new GPPD-funded groundwater well with a hand-operated pump
- Property & Caretaking: A local small-scale cattle farmer willingly opened his private property so the surrounding community could have access to the new well
- Completion Date: July 28, 2026

Community Impact
- The new well was installed at a location where people were already coming to collect water from hand-dug pools
- The landowner has opened his property so families throughout the surrounding community can freely access the new water source
- Women and girls often carry much of the responsibility for collecting water, and the time required to find water can take girls away from school and limit their opportunity for education
- Families now have access to a more dependable and protected source of water instead of relying on hand dug pools
- We estimate approximately 800 people will regularly benefit from this well, within a broader community of approximately 1,000 people
